Some useful expressions for getting Band 6.0 on IELTS Writing (Task 1)

Hi!! I'm Clever Apple! I got Band 6.5 on IELTS Writing and I'm studying Master of Education (TESOL) at Wollongong university in Australia. 


Today, I will tell you some expressions that can be used in IELTS writing task 1.





This article is about 'How to get Band 6.0 on IELTS writing, which is required to meet to enter many Western universities.

 I learned from over 10 textbooks about IELTS exam.

 0. Why should we learn fixed phrases?

You may have difficulty studying IELTS writing, because of the unfamiliar test formats, short time restriction, and so on.


In writing task 1, you are required to write a 150-words essay in approximately 20 minutes.


Therefore, it is important to remember some expressions you can use in essays to save time and check the essay again. I will call the list that has some useful expressions, 'Expression List'.

IELTS writing task 1 can be classified in to 5 types: ①Line graphs ②Pie chart ③Bar chart ④ Table ⑤Diagrams or Maps.
I will introduce some expressions from my own Expression List for ①Line graphs and ⑤Maps, which are often seen in IELTS exams.
By the way, I have taken IELTS twice and both of the writing task 1 were about ①Line graphs.

These phrases are expressed as verbs, but they can be used as nouns such as 'There was a steady increase in ~'
