留学に持って行って良かったもの5選！(オーストラリア留学)

今日は、オーストラリアのウーロンゴン大学に留学していた私が、日本からオーストラリアに持って行って良かったものを5つ紹介したいと思います！！

これから留学しようとしている方は参考にしてみて下さい！

留学先は、オーストラリアではない、他の国でも使えるものだと思います！！

 1. たこ足コード

 

一つ目の留学に持って行って良かったものは、「たこ足コード」です！！

 

 

私は、勉強に、電子辞書、iPad、パソコン、スマホなどを利用していたのですが、それらを同時に充電するために「たこ足コード」がとても重宝しました！！

 

 

特に私は、学生寮に住んでいて、自分の部屋のコンセントの数が少ない+変換プラグを使うと二つ分のコンセントが埋まってしまう状況だったので、たこ足コードは持って行って良かったと思います！！

 

 

ただ、そんなに多くの機器を同時に利用することは少ないので、3~4つのコンセントが付いている安いたこ足コードで十分だと思います！

 2. セームタオル

 

2点目は「セームタオル」です！！

 

 

このタオルの名前を始めて聞いた方もいるかもしれないので、説明すると、「何度も絞って、繰り返し体を拭くことができるタオル」です！

 

市民プールなどで使っている人を見たことがあるかもしれません！

 

 

 

このタオルをおすすめする理由は、「バスタオルの使用を減らすことができる」からです！

 

 

オーストラリアは日本に比べ物価が高く、あまり買い物をしたくない私は、バスタオル2枚でやりくりしていました。

 

 

また、私が住んでいた寮では洗濯機と乾燥機の利用にそれぞれ2ドルずつかかるし、洗濯物を干すスペースも限られていたため、毎日バスタオルを洗濯したくありませんでした…笑

 

かといって、濡れたままのバスタオルを部屋の中に置いておくのも衛生的に良くありません。

 

 

 

 

そこで使っていたのが、今回の「セームタオル」です！

繰り返し絞って体の水分を拭きとることができるので、私は

 

①セームタオルである程度体を拭く

　　　　　　↓

②バスタオルで仕上げに拭く

 

といった使い方をしていました！！

 

 

 

セームタオルは固く絞って外に干しておけば、すぐに乾いてまた使えます！！

 

 

 

 

ちなみに私は中高と水泳部だったので、ずっと使っていて、海やプールに持って行っても便利です！！

 3. ノート

 

三点目は意外かもしれませんが、「ノート」です。

 

 

iPadをノート代わりに使っているという方でなければ、ノートは日本から持って行った方がいいかもしれません！

 

 

その理由は二つあります。

 

 

 

 

一つ目の理由は、オーストラリアではノートが高いからです。

 

これはなぜだか分からないのですが、ティッシュ、トイレットペーパー、ノートなどの紙製品が、オーストラリアでは日本に比べてとても高いです！

 

 

 

 

 

二つ目の理由は、オーストラリアのノートは脆かったです(商品によると思います)。

 

大学のUni Shopでノートを購入した友人は、「ノートのページがバラバラと切り離されてめちゃくちゃ使いにくい」と言っていました。

 

商品や値段にもよりますが、高いノートを現地で買うよりも、キャリーケースの要領に余裕がある方は、日本でノートを購入していった方がいいかもしれません！

 4. 電子辞書

 

4点目は、「電子辞書」です！！

 

 

よく、「スマホで英語を調べられるからし、電子辞書はかさばるから留学には持っていかなくてもいい」という声を聞きますが、私は個人的には電子辞書を持って行って良かったと思います。

 

 

 

その理由は二つあります。

 

 

 

 

一つ目の理由は、スマホを辞書代わりにすると、スマホをそのままいじってしまうからです。

 

たしかにスマホで分からない英単語や表現を調べるのには便利ですが、その他の誘惑が

大きいです。

 

 

例えば、①スマホで分からない単語を調べる

　　　　　　　　　　　↓

　　　　②その時友達からLineが来る

　　　　　　　　　　　↓

　　　　③返信ついでにSNSやYouTubeを長時間見始めてしまう

 

 

といったことが考えられます。

 

 

コースにもよりますが、留学の成功ためには、「まとまった、集中できる勉強時間」が大事だと思います。

 

 

スマホはいじらなくても、「近くに置いてあるだけで集中力が低下してしまう」といったことも聞いたことがあります。

　　　

 

 

勉強に集中したい方は、ご自身の電子辞書を持って行ったほうが良いと思います！！

 

 

 

 

 

 

次に二つ目の理由についてです。

 

二つ目の理由は、「調べるのが楽」だからです。

 

 

電子辞書は、一つの単語を調べると、様々な意味を一気に見ることができるので、探している文脈での意味をすぐに見つけられると思います！！

 

 

私の場合ですが、スマホで英単語などを調べる時、画面をたくさんスクロールしてその文脈に合っているだろう意味を時間をかけて見つけなくてはなりません。

 

単語の意味調べに時間がかかると、勉強のやる気も削がれてしまします。

 

これは人によりますが、個人的には「電子辞書の利用」をおすすめします！！

 

 

 

 

電子辞書は自分の使いやすいと思い、和英辞典と英和辞典、英英辞典が最低でも入っていればなんでもいいと思います！！

 

 

 

 

 5. 折り畳み傘

 

 

最後の5点目は「折り畳み傘」です！！

 

 

折り畳み傘を持って行った方が良い理由は、「日本で買った方が(多分)丈夫だから」です！！

 

私は、日本で購入した折り畳み傘を持って行ったのですが、私の友人は、オーストラリアで折り畳み傘を購入しました。

 

 

その友人の折り畳み傘は、雨と風の強い日に、一緒に歩いていたら壊れてしまいました…泣

 

そのため、その友人は日本で折り畳み傘を購入していくことを強くオススメしていました！！

 

 

私は気が付かなかったのですが、折り畳み傘は日本で買って良かったらしいです…笑

 

 

 

 

 6. 番外編

 

最後に、必ずみなさん持っていきますが、より多く持って行ったほうが良いものをご紹介して終わろうと思います！！

 

 

 

それは「下着」です！！

 

 

留学先でも下着を購入することはできますが、デザインが気に入らなかったり、サイズが合わなかったりするので、下着は多く持って行った方がいいかもしれません！！

(これも友人からのアドバイスです笑)

 

 

 

 

　まとめ

 

今回は、「留学に持って行って良かったもの」についてご紹介しました！

 

 

それは、「たこ足コード」「セームタオル」「ノート」「電子辞書」「折り畳み傘」

 

です！！

 

 

 

 

これから留学するという方は、留学準備の際、「何を持っていけばいいんだろう…」と不安になると思います。

 

 

しかし、何か持って行き忘れても全然大丈夫です！！

 

 

現地には現地で同じように生活している人がいる訳で、必要なものは留学先で結構簡単に買えます笑

 

 

だから、荷物は本当に最小限度でいいと思います！(私はキャリーケースを二つ持って行き、一つはほぼ空で行きましたが、帰りはお土産などで二つともパンパンでした…笑)

 

 

 

ただ、「現地で購入できない・しにくい物」と「日本で買った方が質が良い物」に関しては、日本から持って行ってもいいかもしれません！！

Study Abroad in Australia Campus East (Student Accommodation) Tour!! (Part 2)

Today, I would like to introduce Campus East , the student dormitory  where I spent half a year while studying abroad ! !

This is the second part of article about Campas East.

In this article, I would like to introduce the good and bad points of Campus East , including the main facilities! !

 

 

 

First, I'll introduce the buildings where the students live!

 

Campus East has several buildings where students live, and each building is named after some places in Australia.

 

For example, the building I lived in is called Bombo!

 

 

This is  Wombarra and...

There are names such as Kiama and Bulli.

 

Students often get confused as to whether they are talking about the place or the campus east buildings lol.

 

 

 

The building itself looks like this, and they are 3 stories.

 

 

Basically, we have a private bedroom, and the toilet and shower are shared with 2-4 roommates!

 

The roommates are groups of boys and girls, but if there's something you really don't like, you can request a room change! (I've never done it, so I don't know the details...)

 

There are many friendly people, and they are from various countries other than Australia.

By the way, all four of my roommates were Australian.

 

 

 

Here's what the bedroom looks like!

 

As some of you may have noticed by looking at this photo, there are no pillows, sheets or comforters provided! !

 

You can buy them from the Campus East staff, but they are very expensive, so they usually buy stuff by themselves.

 

In addition, shampoo, body soap, bath towels, softener, dryers, kettles, toilet paper, etc. are not provided, so you need to buy them yourself or with your roommates.

 

I recommend a general store called Target , which can be reached in about 10 minutes by free shuttle bus from Campus East , or a general store called K-mart , where you can get daily necessities very cheaply, although you have to use a city bus! 

 

 

 

There is also an event called " Good Will Hunting" at the university orientation where alumni can donate unnecessary household items and new students can get them for free ! ! 

 

I got knives and forks from the event for free!

 

 

The room is pretty drab at first, so everyone enjoys decorating with posters, lights, photos! !

 

 

 

The shower room is like this, there is no bathtub, so some of my Japanese friends wanted to take a bath lol

 

 

 

 

There is a shared kitchen in the shared space, but it is actually just a sink with an outlet, and there is no gas stove.

(It is not equipped for fire prevention ...)

 

However, Wombarra , which I introduced earlier , has a kitchen that anyone can use, and it has an electric stove, so you can cook lunch there! !

 

 

The room uses a card key, but if you leave the room key in the room and get locked out, the first and second times will be handled free of charge, but after the third time, you will have to pay $10.  The count is reset periodically (I think it was once a month).

 

 

Also, about once a month, there is a "cleaning inspection" to check if the room is clean, so it is necessary to keep the room clean.

 

However, the standards are quite loose and you will be notified by email in advance, so if it's not messy or dirty, it's basically okay!

 

 

 

 

Outside each building, there are washing machines, dryers, sinks, clothes-drying poles (although they are called poles, they have strings that you can hang your laundry on), microwave ovens, bicycle storage, etc.

 

Yous can use washers and dryers at $2 each. (I honestly want this to be free...lol)

 

Also, the dryer sometimes didn't work when I used it (I don't know why...) and it's really annoying when I wasted $2.

 

 

I couldn't help but take a picture of this because it was so funny and unique way of drying their socks.

 

 

Next are other available facilities ! !

 

First, I'll write about study rooms! !

 

Campus East has many self-study rooms, so you can choose the environment that suits you and study with your friends!

 

 

For example, this is one of the study rooms, "Fish Bowl"  !

 

In addition to normal tables and chairs, there are also sofas, so some students are studying while lying down.

 

 

I didn't take any pictures, but there are many other self-study rooms, such as  "Computer lab" where you can freely use computers and printers .

 

 

If you want to study while chatting with your friends, or if you want to have a meeting, you can use the fish bowl, or if you want to concentrate, use the other study rooms.

 

 

In the self-study room, there are posters that have helpful study tips like this lol

 

Next is Entertainment space ! !

 

This is Games Room ! !

 

 

In the games room, there are table tennis tables, billiard tables, pianos, air hockey , chessboard, game machines, and vending machines where you can buy juice and sweets! !

 

 

In addition, board games such as Catan and Monopoly , card games such as Uno, and jigsaw puzzles are also available! !

 

 

 

During the daytime, it's pretty empty, but after dinner, everyone gathers to relax and it's really lively.

 

 

 

Next is the theater room ! !

 

The very large theater room requires a reservation at the reception desk or online, but you can connect your computer and enjoy movies on the big screen! !

 

When I was on vacation, I enjoyed watching movies with my friends almost every night! !

 

 

 

Next is the TV room ! !

 

You have to book this room too, but it has a TV so you can enjoy movies or play video games! !

 

 

 

 

Next is other facilities ! !

 

This is what the reception looks like! (It was decorated for Easter in this picture !)

 

 

 

The reception is open from 8:00  a.m. to 6:00 p.m. , but if you call them, they will come at any time.

 

The staff are all friendly and very kind! !

 

 

In the public toilets near the reception, there are protections that you can take freely, and I felt that it was different from Japan.

 

Also, campus east has a lot of  arts everywhere.

Lastly, I like to take a walk, but Campus East is surrounded by university research facilities, gyms, etc. called Innovation Campus, so it is very safe even at night. 

 

 

In addition, there is a Coles (supermarket) from Campus East about 10 minutes on foot, and there is a beach near Campus East!!

 

 

In fact, there are many students who chose Campus East because it is close to the beach, and many students who have surfboards in their rooms! !

 

 

 

So far, I have mainly written about the good points of Campus East, but I would also like to write about the points that I personally dissatisfied with.

 

 

The first point is the poor drainage .

 

Campus East has poor drainage, and when it rains, the paths have many puddles.

 

There are large puddles, so socks become soggy and white shoes become muddy.

 

Also, when it rained a lot, the road became like a river, and I couldn't even go outside. (This is rare...)

 

The second point is the sound of animals .

 

There is a lot of nature around Campus East, and you can see some animals such as possums, colorful birds, and lizards.

 

What I found a little annoying was the sounds of those animals. .

 

In the morning, I was sometimes woken up by the sound of a bird screaming like a woman's cry. It was noisy and sometimes I can't sleep.

 

It's okay when you get used to it, but at first you may need earplugs lol

 

 

 

 

The third point is the fire alarm .

 

Campus East has a fire alarm installed in each room, but it can go off suddenly at any time.

 

The cause may be a malfunction or someone burning the food, but what I don't really understand is that it goes off because of the steam in the shower room.

 

 

When the alarm goes off, all the students living in the building have to evacuate outside, and sometimes they have to wait outside for 30 minutes to an hour... lol

 

I was woken up around 1:00 at night, and my friend was woken up 3 times in the middle of the night.

 

 

 

 

 

The fourth point, which I wrote a little about in the previous article, is that the food repertoire is not that great.

 

The food served in the cafeteria is delicious at first, but the repertoire is not that great and you might get bored.

 

My friends also complained about the dormitory, but it was mostly about the food.

Especially for vegetarians, there was only one kind of dinner, and vegetarians seemed to be quite dissatisfied...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

My last personal experience is about the names on the walls of my room.

 

Each room has a piece of paper with a name written on it so that you can tell whose room it is. However, my name paper was put in the bin and new mate's name was on the door, before I leave my room.

 

This is not a big deal, but I was a little shocked to feel rejected by the dormitory...lol

 

It's a funny story now, but I wish the staff had put my name on the paper for a little longer...lol

 

 

 

There were things I wasn't satisfied with, but basically I really like Campus East , and I'm really glad I chose it! ! !

ウーロンゴン大学院留学 キャンパスイースト(学生寮)紹介！！(後編)

今日は、私が留学中半年間過ごした学生寮である、キャンパスイーストをご紹介したいと思います！！

今回は、前回のキャンパスイーストの紹介の記事の後編となります！

今回の記事では、私が利用したキャンパスイーストの主要な施設を含め、良かった点と悪い点もご紹介できればと思います！！

 

 

 

まず、最初に、学生が住む建物についてです！

 

キャンパスイーストは、学生が住む建物がいくつかあり、一つひとつの建物に、実際にオーストラリアにある地名が付けられています。

 

例えば、私が住んでいた建物は、Bombo(ボンボ)という名前でした！

 

他にも、Wombarra(ウォンバラ)や...

 

Kiama(カヤマ)、Bulli(ブライ)などの名前があります。

 

学生は、よく地名とキャンパスイーストの建物どちらの話をしているのかごっちゃになることもあります…笑

 

 

 

建物自体はこんな感じで、3階建てが多いです！

 

基本的には、ベッドルームは別で、トイレとシャワーなどは、2~4人のルームメイトと共有です！

 

ルームメイトは男女混合ですが、何かどうしても気に入らないことがあれば、部屋の変更を申請することもできるらしいです！(私はしたことがないので詳しくは分かりません…)

 

基本的にフレンドリーな人が多く、オーストラリア以外にも、色んな国からの留学生が住んでいます。　ちなみに、私のルームメイトは4人全員がオーストラリア人でした。

 

 

 

ベッドルームはこんな感じです！

この写真を見て気づいた人もいるかと思いますが、最初に気を付けなければいけないこととして、枕、シーツ、掛布団などが用意されていません！！

 

キャンパスイーストのスタッフから買うこともできるのですが、とても高いので、大体みんな自分で買いそろえています！

 

他にも、シャンプーやボディーソープ、バスタオルや柔軟剤、ドライヤーやケトル、トイレットペーパーなども用意されていないため、自分で、またはルームメイトと一緒にお金をだして買う必要があります。

 

おすすめは、キャンパスイーストから無料のシャトルバスで10分ほどで行ける、Targetという雑貨屋さんや有料のバスを利用しなくてはいけないものの、とても安く生活必需品をゲットできる、Kマートという雑貨屋さんです！

 

どちらも商品が安く、学生の味方です！！

 

他には、大学のオリエンテーションで、「グッドウィルハンティング」というイベントがあり、卒業生がいらなくなった生活用品を寄付し、新入生が無料でそれらを手に入れることもできます！！

 

私も、ナイフやフォークなどを無料で手に入れることができました！

ちなみに、私が日本に帰国する際は、友人たちに全部必要ないものを投げ出してきました笑笑

 

 

部屋は最初は結構殺風景なので、みんなポスターを貼ったり、ライトをつけたり、写真を飾ったり、デコレーションを楽しんでいます！！

 

 

 

シャワールームはこんな感じで、バスタブはありません。そのため、お風呂に入りたいという日本人の友人もいます笑笑

 

 

 

 

 

シェアスペースには、共有キッチンがあるのですが、実際にはシンクにコンセントがついただけのもので、ガスコンロなどはありません。

(火事防止のため備え付けられていないそうです…)

 

しかし、先ほど紹介したWombarraには、誰でも使えるキッチンがあり、電気式のコンロがついているので、そこで昼食などを作ったりできます！！

 

 

部屋はカードキーを利用するのですが、ルームキーを部屋に置き忘れ、締め出されてしまった場合は、1.2回目は無料で対応してもらえるのですが、3回目以降は、10ドルを支払う必要があります…　このカウントは、定期的にリセットされるそうです(確か月に一度だったと思います)。

 

 

また、月に一度程度、部屋を綺麗に使っているかを確認する、「クリーニングインスペクション」があるため、部屋は綺麗にしておく必要があります。

 

といっても、かなり基準が緩く、事前にメールで知らされるため、めちゃくちゃ汚しているとかでなければ、基本大丈夫です！

 

 

 

 

それぞれの建物の外には、洗濯機、乾燥機、シンク、物干し竿(竿と言っても、紐が伸びていて、そこに洗濯物を干すことができるもの)、電子レンジ、自転車の倉庫などが備え付けられています。

 

洗濯機と乾燥機は、一回につき、2ドルがかかります。(これは正直無料にしてほしいです…笑)

 

また、乾燥機は時々使っても、乾燥されないことがあり(なぜだかは分かりません…)、2ドルを無駄にした時は、とてもむかつきます笑笑

 

 

これは面白くて思わず撮ってしまったのですが、癖の強い(独創的)な洗濯物の干し方をする方もいらっしゃいます笑

 

 

 

次にその他の利用できる施設についてです！！

 

まずは、自習室です！！

 

キャンパスイーストには、たくさんの自習室があり、自分にあった環境を選んだり、友達と一緒に勉強したりできます！

 

 

例えば、これは自習室の一つである、「フィッシュボウル」です！

 

普通のテーブルと椅子に加え、ソファもあるので、寝そべりながら勉強している学生もいます笑

 

 

写真は撮っていないのですが、他にもパソコンや印刷機を自由に利用することができる自習室の「コンピューターラボ」や自習室の部屋がたくさんあります。

 

 

友達とワイワイ話しながら勉強したい、ミーティングをしたいなどといったときにはフィッシュボウル、集中したい時はその他の自習室を使うなど、好みに合わせて勉強することができます。

 

 

自習室には、このようなためになる貼り紙が貼ってあったりします笑

 

次に、娯楽スペースです！！

 

まずは、ゲームズルームです！！

 

ゲームズルームには、卓球台やビリヤード台、ピアノ、エアーホッケー、チェス、ゲーム機の他、ジュースやお菓子が買える、自販機などがあります！！

 

 

他にも、カタンやモノポリーなどのボードゲーム、ウノやトランプなどのカードゲームやジグソーパズルなども用意されています！！

 

昼間は、ガラガラなのですが、夕食後などは、みんなリラックスのために集まり、活気があります。

 

 

 

次は、シアタールームです！！

とても広いシアタールームは、受付またはオンラインで予約が必要なのですが、パソコンなどを繋ぎ、大きなスクリーンで映画などを楽しむことができます！！

 

私も、休暇中は、毎晩のように、友人たちと映画を楽しみました！！

 

 

 

続いては、TVルームです！！

 

この部屋も予約をする必要があるのですが、テレビが備え付けられているため、映画を楽しんだり、テレビゲームで遊ぶことができます！！

 

 

 

 

最後にその他の施設です！！

 

受付はこんな感じです！(この写真はイースターの飾りつけがしてあります！)

受付が開いている時間は、基本朝の８時から、夜の6時までなのですが、電話をすれば24時間来てくれます！！

 

スタッフの方はみなさんフレンドリーでとっても親切です！！

 

 

受付の近くの公共トイレでは、自由に取ってよい避妊具が置いてあり、日本とは違っているなと感じました。

 

また、キャンパスイーストは、アートがいたるところに飾られており、見ていて楽しいです！

これらの写真はほんの一部です！！

最後に、私は散歩をするのが好きなのですが、キャンパスイーストは、イノベーションキャンパスという、大学の研究施設や、ジムなどの敷地に囲まれているため、夜でも治安がとてもよく、安心して散歩をすることができました！！

 

 

また、歩いて10分くらいのところにスーパーマーケットであるColesがあったり、ビーチがあったりするので、とても便利です！

 

実際に、ビーチが近いからキャンパスイーストを選んだという学生や、サーフィンのボードを部屋に置いている学生も多くいます！！

 

 

 

ここまで、キャンパスイーストの良い点を中心に書いてきましたが、私が個人的に満足しなかった点も挙げていきたいと思います笑

 

 

1点目は、水はけの悪さです。

 

キャンパスイーストのまわりは、水はけが悪く、雨が降ると、たくさんの水たまりができます。

 

とても大きなみずたまりになるので、靴下はびちょびちょになるし、白い靴などは、すぐにどろどろになってしまいます。

 

また、大雨が続いたときは、道路が川のようになってしまい、外に出ることすらままなりませんでした。(これほどの雨は珍しいらしいのですが…)

 

 

 

 

2点目は、動物の音です。

 

キャンパスイーストの周りは自然が多く、ポッサムやカラフルな鳥、トカゲなどたくさんの動物が住んでいます。

 

少し嫌だと感じたのは、それらの動物の鳴き声です。

 

朝は、鳥の、「キャー！！！！」という女性の叫び声のような声で起こされることがあったり、夜(夏)は、トカゲまたはカエル(なんの動物なのか分かりません)の鳴き声がうるさく、時々寝られないことがあります。

 

慣れてくると大丈夫なのですが、最初は、耳栓などが必要かもしれません笑笑

 

 

3点目は、火災報知器です。

 

キャンパスイーストには、それぞれの部屋に火災報知器が取り付けられているのですが、これが、昼夜問わず突然鳴り響くことがあります笑

 

原因は、故障であったり、だれかが料理をして焦がしたりなどがあるのですが、よく分からないのは、シャワールームの蒸気に反応して作動することがあります。

どうやら、とても熱い水温のシャワーを長時間換気扇なしで使い続けると、誤作動を起こしてしまうようなのです笑

 

これに関しては本当にどうにかして欲しかったです…笑　アラームがなると、建物に住む学生全員が外に避難しなくてはならず、30分から1時間外で待たされることも…笑

 

私も深夜1時くらいに起こされたり、友人も、深夜に3回も起こされたりしていました…泣

 

 

 

 

 

4点目は、前編の記事でも少し書いたのですが、食事のレパートリーがそんなに多くない点です。

 

カフェテリアで提供される食事は最初は美味しいのですが、レパートリーがそんなに多くないので飽きてきてしまいます。

 

友人たちも寮に対して不満はありましたが、大体は食事についてでした。

特にベジタリアンの方の夜ご飯は1種類しかなく、ベジタリアンの方は結構不満そうでした…

 

やっぱり毎日食べる食事は美味しく食べたいですよね！

 

これは好みの問題もあると思いますが、好き嫌いが分かれるかもしれません！

 

 

 

最後は個人的な経験なのですが、部屋に貼ってある名前についてです。

 

各部屋には、誰の部屋か分かるように、名前の書いてある紙がドアに貼ってあるのですが、私が日本に帰国する5日ほど前に、私の名前の紙が捨てられ、新しく住む学生の名前が貼られていました。

 

これは特に大きな問題ではないのですが、寮から拒絶された感じがして少しショックでした…笑

 

今では笑い話ですが、スタッフの方にはもう少しだけ長く、私の名前の紙を貼っておいて欲しかったです…笑

 

 

 

色々私が満足しなかった点を挙げましたが、基本的に私はキャンパスイーストが大のお気に入りで、ここを選んで本当に良かったと感じています！！！

Study Abroad in Australia Campus East (Student Accommodation) Tour!! (Part 1)

 Hello!　Clever Apple ! !

Today, I would like to introduce Campus East , the student accommodation  where I spent half a year while studying abroad ! !

Campus East  is one of the student dormitories of University of Wollongong in  Australia. A free shuttle bus runs every 10 minutes (every 20 minutes on weekends) to the university, and it takes about 15 minutes to get to school. 

Actually, I originally applied for Bangalay, a student dormitory for graduate students next to the university, because it was clean and quiet to study.

However! ! Even though I applied for it about half a year ago, the university staff didn't check the email I sent and said, "Bangalay is no longer available." (I heard it sometimes happens in Australia... For sure!???)

So, I have no choice but to live in Campus East.

At first, I thought I wanted to live in "Bangalay", but now, I think choosing Campus  East was the best decision I made in Australia! !

There are three main reasons for this!

① You don't have to do shopping or cooking because it's catered.

② There are many fun events

③It is an environment to make friends (environment where you can speak a lot of English)　　!

The first reason is : 1. You don't have to shop or cook because it's catered!

At Campus East , breakfast is served from 7:30 to 10:15 on weekdays and Saturdays, and from 9:00 to 11:00 on Sundays

Dinner is served from 5:30 to 7:30 at night! !

The students don't have to go shopping, cook, and wash dishes!!

By the way, breakfast includes bread, cereal, fruit, yogurt etc...

In addition to these , hot meals such as sausages, bacon, fried eggs, fried rice, and muffins are served on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays ! !

Dinner looks like these! !

Basically, you choose two side dishes such as pork, lamb, beef, chicken, fish or vegetarian food.

Other than that, there are all-you-can-eat salad, rice, steamed potatoes and pumpkin! !

In addition, although it is not every day, you can also eat vanilla, salted caramel, blueberry, strawberry, watermelon, and other soft serve ice cream and desserts such as cakes!

In addition, tea, coffee, cocoa, etc. are all-you-can-drink! !

There is no lunch, but if you bring a container to the cafeteria after 7:20 p.m., you can get a second serving for lunch.

As for the taste of the meals....

It was delicious for the first two months, but they didn't have much repertoire, so I got a little tired of it...lol But basically foods were fine!!

The rent is 315 Australian dollars per week, which is quite expensive, but considering the cost of food, utilities, and the use of the facilities explained in the second part, I don't think it's that expensive for Australia! !

Next, ② there are lots of fun events !

At Campus East , there are many fun student-sponsored events!

For example, you have a speed meeting , which is a meeting to get along with other students, 

and Cold Rock Night where you can eat free ice cream with your friends.

Meditations , sporting events, game events, campus tours, which are not only fun but also helpful! !

I also made friends at the speed meeting and ate ice cream with my friends!

I also personally enjoyed making cards with pressed flowers.

In this way, Campus East hosts many events every day!

On the other hand, Bangalay, where I originally planned to live, has a quiet study environment, but there are few events and I may not have had the opportunity to make many friends!

I will introduce a little more about the events that I liked in the next article!

Last but not least, the good thing about Campus East was that you can make friends (you have a lot of opportunities to speak English)!!

You will live in a dormitory with other students, so communication in English is essential .

Even in homestays, there are opportunities to communicate in English .

However, in Campus East, where I lived, has not only Australian students, but also students from various regions such as Europe and Asia, who have diverse cultural backgrounds and speak various kinds of English.

Now that native English speakers are minority and there are more opportunities to speak with non-native English speakers will be a great advantage!!

For example, in the building where I lived, each of us had our own bedroom, but we shared the kitchen, toilet, and shower with our four share mates, and we sometimes chatted and drank in this shared space. 

In addition, breakfast and dinner were served at specific time, so you would meet other students and friends during meal times!

I think there are many students who go abroad to improve their English skills, but I think one of the big advantages of a student dormitory is that you can interact with a lot of students ! ! ! 

Homestay or renting a house by yourself is also possible, but I had a friend who said, "Even though I came to study abroad, I don't have many opportunities to speak English."

You can increase opportunities to speak English depending on your efforts and ingenuity, but it might be a good point to have that environment from the beginning!

As a result, I do not regret choosing Campus East! 

I've never experienced homestay, so I can't compare, but I think my life in Campus East was great!!

This time, I introduced the reasons why I chose Campus East, where I spent half a year , focusing on the good points! !

However, I wasn't satisfied with everything in the dormitory...lol　

In the next article, I would like to introduce the facilities, including the points that I personally wanted to improve! !

ウーロンゴン大学院留学 キャンパスイースト(学生寮)紹介！！(前編)

こんにちは！　Clever Appleです！！

今日は、私が留学中半年間過ごした学生寮である、キャンパスイーストをご紹介したいと思います！！

キャンパスイーストは、オーストラリア・ウーロンゴンにあるウーロンゴン大学の学生寮の一つで、大学へは無料のシャトルバスが10分(週末は20分に)ごとに走っており、15分ほどで通学することができます！

実は私は当初、Bangalayという、大学の隣にある、大学院生用の学生寮が綺麗で静かに勉強できるということで、申し込んでいました。

しかし！！約半年前から申し込んでいたにも関わらず、大学のスタッフの方が私の送ったメールを確認してなかったらしく、「Bangalayはもう空いてないよ？」と言われました…笑 (オーストラリアではよくあることらしいです…　適当か…笑)

仕方がないので、まだ空きがあると言われた、キャンパスイーストに住むことに決めます！

最初は、「Bangalay」が良かったな…と思っていたのですが、今考えてみると、キャンパスイーストを選んで本当に良かったと思っています！！

その理由は大きく分けて3つ！

①ご飯を作ってもらえるので、買い物、料理をしなくていいこと

②楽しいイベントがたくさんあること

③友達を作りやすい環境　(英語をたくさん話す環境)　　です！

まず一つ目の理由は、①ご飯を作ってもらえるので、買い物、料理をしなくていいことです！

キャンパスイーストでは、平日と土曜日は7時半から10時15分まで、日曜日は9時から11時まで朝ごはんを、夜は5時半から7時半までご飯が提供されます！！

これは忙しい学生にとって、買い物、料理、片付けの手間が省けるので、本当にありがたかったです！！

ちなみに、朝ごはんは、パン、シリアル、フルーツ、ヨーグルトなどがあります！

また、これらの他に、日、月、水、金曜日は、ソーセージやベーコン、目玉焼きやチャーハン、マフィンといった、温かいご飯も提供されます！！

夜ごはんはこんな感じです！！

基本的に、豚肉、ラム肉、牛肉、鶏肉、魚、ベジタリアンなどのおかずの中から2つを選びます。

他には、サラダ、お米、蒸かしたジャガイモやカボチャは食べ放題です！！

他にも、毎日ではないのですが、バニラ、塩キャラメル、ブルーベリー、イチゴ、スイカ味などのソフトクリームやケーキなどのデザートも食べられます！

加えて、紅茶、コーヒー、ココアなどは飲み放題です！！

お昼ご飯はないのですが、午後の7時20分以降にカフェテリアに、容器をもっていくと、おかわりがもらえ、次の日のお昼ご飯にすることができるので、基本的にお昼ご飯を買う必要はありませんでした！

肝心のお味はというと....

最初の2か月ほどは、美味しかったのですが、それほどレパートリーがあるわけではないので、少し飽きもありました…笑　しかし、基本私は美味しく食べられました！

家賃は一週間で315オーストラリアドルで、かなり高いのですが、食費、光熱費、後編で説明する施設が使い放題であることを考えると、オーストラリアにしてはそこまで高くないのではと思います！！

次に、②楽しいイベントがたくさんあることについてです！

キャンパスイーストでは、学生主催の楽しめるイベントが多くあります！

例えば、他の学生と仲良くなるためのミーティングである、スピードミーティングや、

みんなでアイスを食べる、コールドロックナイトの他、

メディテーションや、スポーツイベント、ゲームイベントや、キャンパスツアーなど、楽しいだけでなく、助かるイベントもたくさんあります！！

私も、スピードミーティングで友達を作ったり、アイスをみんなで食べました！

他にも、押し花でカードづくりなども個人的に楽しかったです。

このように、キャンパスイーストでは日々、たくさんのイベントが開催されています！

逆に、当初住む予定だった、Bangalayは、静かに勉強できる環境は整っているらしいのですが、イベントは少なく、たくさんの友達を作る機会はなかったかもしれません！

私が気に入っていたイベントについては、後半の記事でもう少しご紹介しようと思います！

さて、最後のキャンパスイーストで良かった点は、二点目にもお話したイベントの有無にも関わってきますが、友達ができやすい(英語をたくさん話す)環境にあると思います！！

学生寮で、他の学生と一緒に生活するため、英語でのコミュニケーションが不可欠となります。

ホームステイなどでも、英語でのコミュニケーションの機会はありますが、私が思う学生寮の利点は、「いろんな人と関われる」ということです！

私が住んでいたキャンパスイーストは、オーストラリアの学生だけでなく、ヨーロッパやアジアなどの様々な地域から、多様な文化的背景を持ち、色々な種類の英語を話す学生が集まります。

英語のネイティブスピーカーがもはや少数派であり、むしろ、非ネイティブと話す機会のほうが多い現在、多様な、文化や英語に触れるというのは大きなメリットになると思います！！

例えば、私が住んでいた建物は、一人ひとりのベッドルームはありますが、4人のシェアメイトとキッチンやトイレ、シャワーを共有し、このような共用スペースで談笑したり,お酒を飲んだりしました。

他にも、朝ごはんと夜ご飯の食事の提供の時間が決められていたため、食事の時間は必然的に他の学生・友達と顔を合わせることになります！

英語力を伸ばすために留学に行く学生の方も多いと思いますが、「友達と関わることが多い・いろんな人と交流できる」というのは、学生寮の大きなメリットの一つだと思います！！！

ホームステイや自分で家を賃貸で借りるというのもアリですが、「せっかく留学に来たのにあまり英語を話す機会がない」という友人もいました…

努力や工夫次第で英語を話す機会を増やすことはできますが、最初からその環境があるというのはいいポイントかもしれませんね！！

結果的に、私は学生寮であるキャンパスイーストを選んだことを後悔していない、むしろ今では一番良かった選択だと感じています！！

ホームステイや自分で家を探したことがないので、比較はできませんが、満足のいく留学生活ができたと思っています！！

本当に出会えてよかった友人もたくさんできました！！

今回は、私が半年間過ごしたキャンパスイーストを選んだ理由を、いい点を中心にご紹介しました！！

しかし、寮の全てに満足していたわけではありません…笑　

続く後半では、個人的に改善してほしかった点も含めて、施設などをご紹介したいと思います笑！！

Why do Australian people bite into an apple?

Today, I would like to write about  "Why do Australian people bite into an  apple?"

When I eat an apple in Japan, I cut it into pieces, but when I was in Australia, my friends bit into an apple without cutting it.

I wondered why, and I thought about the three reasons!

 1. Size

 

The first factor that comes to mind is the size .

When I saw apples in Australia, I noticed that apples are smaller than Japanese apples.

Therefore, eating a whole apple in Australia does not fill you up so much, but Japanese apples are big and, so just one apple is enough.

In short, Japanese apples are supposed to be shared with someone, while Australian apples are supposed to be eaten alone.

 2. The amount of the fruit juice

 

The second possible factor is "The amount of the fruit juice" of apples.

 

Personally, I felt that Australian apples have less juice than Japanese apples .

 

Japanese apples tend to be juicier, so if you bite into a whole apple, the juice will come out and your hands will be sticky.

 

Australian apples, on the other hand, are not as moist and have a crunchy texture, so they don't ooze much juice.

In Australia, I saw people eating apples while walking or studying at the library.

 3. Price

 

The final possible factor is about the price .

 

Japanese apples are more expensive than Australian apples.

 

So, at least for me, Japanese apples are "a treat" .

 

I feel like I'm going to take my time eating them.

 

Conversely, Australian apples, which are cheaper, are more like a snack  .

 

I haven't heard from Australians, but maybe the values ​​of apples differ from country to country!

オーストラリアの人はなぜリンゴを齧るのか？

こんにちは！　Clever Appleです！！

今日は、オーストラリアでの留学で気が付いた、「なぜ、オーストラリアの人はリンゴを齧るのか」について思いついたことを書いていこうと思います！

私は、日本でリンゴを食べる際、切ってからお皿にのせて食べますが、オーストラリアにいるときは、周りの友達はリンゴを切ることなくまるごと齧って食べていました。

なぜだか疑問に思ったので、自分なりに考察して、三つの理由を考えました！

 1. 大きさの問題

まず考えられる一つ目の要因は「大きさ」についてです。

オーストラリアのリンゴを見て気が付いたことは、オーストラリアのリンゴは日本のリンゴに比べ、小さいです。

そのため、オーストラリアのリンゴは一つまるごと食べてもそれほどお腹が満たされる訳ではありませんが、日本のリンゴはずっしりと大きく重いため、一つでお腹がいっぱいになります。

要するに、日本のリンゴは「誰かとシェアすることが前提」オーストラリアのリンゴは「一人で食べることが前提」といったところでしょうか。

 2. 水分量

 

二つ目の考えられる要因は、リンゴの「水分量」です。

 

個人的に感じたのが、「オーストラリアのリンゴは、日本のリンゴに比べて水分量が少ない」ということです。

 

日本のリンゴは水分量が多く、ジューシーなため、丸かじりをすると、果汁が出てきて手がベタベタになってしまいます。

 

しかし、オーストラリアのリンゴは、それほど水分が多くなく、シャキシャキとした触感なので、あまり果汁が流れ出ることはありません。

オーストラリアでは、歩いたり、図書館で勉強しながらリンゴを食べている人を見ましたが、何かしながら食べるときには、水分が少ない方が都合がいいのかもしれません。

 3. 値段

 

最後の考えられる要因は、「値段」についてです。

 

日本のリンゴはオーストラリアのリンゴに比べ、一つひとつの値段が高いです。

 

そのため、少なくとも、私にとって日本のリンゴは「ちょっとしたご馳走」です。

 

値段が高いご馳走は、ちゃんと切り分けて、時間をかけて食べようという気持ちが生まれる気がします。

 

逆に、値段が低いオーストラリアのリンゴは、「手軽に齧ることのできるスナック感覚」といったところでしょうか。

 

オーストラリアの人に聞いた訳ではありませんが、もしかしたら、リンゴに対する価値観は、国によって違うのかもしれませんね！

 

 

 

4. まとめ

 

今日は、「オーストラリアの人はなぜリンゴを齧るのか」について書いてみました！

 

 

正解はないのかもしれませんが、色々考えてみると面白いですよね！
